“What a religion! Despite their wars against Muslim civilians, against Hijab, despite their relentless efforts to tarnish its reputation, their intimidations by labeling Muslims as terrorists and fundamentalists, despite all of this, Islam remains the number one religion in terms of being practiced and accepted by the people in the whole world. It is the only religion that addresses your intellect as well as your soul. I wonder what would happen if the enemies of Islam gave it a fair chance to connect to the people without any intervention from the media. It always brings me pride to be part of this great religion; Islam.” —Assim Alhakeem

“Knowledge and good manners are the value of your soul, so strive to learn them. For, however much your knowledge and good manners increase, so will you value and worth accordingly.” —Imam Ali (A.S)

Most people realize the importance of knowledge but not of good manners. They don’t realize that knowledge has no value unless it is accompanied by good manners.

Aakar Patel: Why it is better to live in the south → livemint.com

korakaghaz:

saawanbarse:

The south’s urban culture is more intellectual. My hypothesis is that this is so because its culture is dominated by the Brahmin….

There are way too many fucking things wrong with this article it’s making me sad and angry

The sixth observation is the commonly found ability of south Indians to speak another (southern) state’s language. This comes from proximity more than from any pressing desire to be multicultural. But it shows the southerner’s openness, and even his canon of sacred music includes songs from another state, in another’s language.

That doesn’t make any sense. This article is hogwash. A Patel who makes the assumption that Mumbaikar Gujaratis are ‘not an intellectual people’ simply cannot be taken seriously. As a piece of hilarious and blatant racism however, this article is a gem:

The third thing is southern tolerance. Unlike the Baniya’s, the southern Brahmin’s vegetarianism isn’t oppressive. The intolerant and insular Gujaratis and Marwaris of Malabar Hill (writer Bachi Karkaria called them the Malabar Hill Tribes) have banished all meat from their neighbourhoods.

There is little sign of such horror of pork and beef eaters around where I live. This may be because the area is not a traditional Brahmin neighbourhood. But generally speaking, the Gujarati’s fanaticism against meat is absent.

BRB CRYING THIS IS THE FUNNIEST SHIT I’VE EVER READ WHAT ARE YOU EVEN SAYING

I have mixed feelings after reading this article. I love Mumbai. So I’ll never agree when someone says that South India is better. Even the author admits that “Mumbai has it’s charms.” I’m Muslim and my ancestors are from North India. North Indian culture which is influenced by Persians and Arabs is beautiful and I think the author being a Gujju Hindu doesnot appreciate that. Though I do believe that what he said about the Marwaris and Gujaratis of Malabar Hill is true. They are very intolerant of non vegetarians and Muslims. But they are a minority. The greatness of Mumbai lies in it’s cosmopolitan culture which is not found in the south.

I have to attend another wedding ceremony today. My third this month. And I have four more to go. Meet the same people, eat the same food, watch the same ceremonies , talk the same things. Repetitive. Boring.
But I have decided that I will try and enjoy this. After all, it is a special day for my cousin (the bride).

Ma’shAllah, that is why we read in Rasool Allah (sawa)’s ziyarat ” I bear witness that you proclaimed the messages of your Lord and that you advised your people and strived in the path of Allah”
