“O you who believe, be careful of (your duty to) Allah and be with the Truthful”-Holy Qur’an(9:119)
About Me:

“Hate no one, no matter how much they’ve wronged you. Live humbly, no matter how wealthy you become. Think positively, no matter how hard life is. Give much, even if you’ve been given little. Keep in touch with the ones who have forgotten you, and forgive who has wronged you, and do not stop praying for the best for those you love.”

rzvzee:

I am telling you this because I wish someone had told me this.
Girls, when you get in your early 20s it’s important for you to get married. Do not delay your marriage. If you get a good proposal say yes! Don’t reject good boys by giving stupid excuses.
—

I realize this is from a sincere and heartfelt place so I just wanted to give my opinion on what you have expressed in the same manner. So please, while I am critical of what you have posted, don’t take this as an attack, because I’m speaking from personal experience, so I hope you understand, InshAllah.

When I turned 18, I went on a trip to India and Dubai to visit some relatives. During this trip I got several marriage proposals, one of which my family (aunts and uncles, including parents) were really adamant on following through. It was a totally arranged situation and personally, the entire experience was really foreign to me, I honestly didn’t want anything other than to go to college, so after quite some resistance, I refused.

My mom really supported my decision and she shielded me when I most needed her. I’m 24 now and I still get nagged on for that decision. People act like it’s the stupidest mistake I’ve ever made, when in that time, I’ve completed my Bachelor’s and have started my Master’s and could not have been more happy with the person I have been allowed to grow into.

It’s completely true that you can pursue an education after marriage. My own mother did. She went back to school when I was 12 and worked on two degrees within 6 years. It’s possible. But only she knows how much she had to sacrifice to get there. Why can’t women be allotted the same dignity as men in terms of education and career pursuits, without meeting resistance from the community?

It’s true that settling down at a younger age helps later on with fertility and other matters, but I feel that the priority for a stable marriage is to have two mature, well-rounded individuals. I was nowhere ready at 19 to find my husband. Like, even now, I’m careful. Girls should feel safe that they are free to mature, emotionally, mentally, and physically before they are thrown into these situations.

I feel like this mentality commodofies women in an already exploitative society. Us women shouldn’t have to sacrifice our right to an education at the right time for us, out of fear that aging a few years will make us less desirable. It’s not fair. It really isn’t. Men don’t keep the same in consideration, do they?

I agree that when you think like this you are com-modifying women in a way. What I have said is the sad truth of our society.
Aging does make women less desirable- in the arranged marriage market atleast.
I am the biggest critic of arranged marriage. Actually, I hate the system. But that’s how we muslims go about it and that’s how it’s done. And we have to be realistic.
This is the advice which I will give to my little sister. I will get her married after she finishes her graduation (at 21) but ofcourse only to a guy who promises to support her in finishing her post graduation.
And yes,it’s not fair. I agree.

e-rocki replied to your post: Well meaning advice for Muslim girls in their early 20s: Get...

e-rocki replied to your post: Well meaning advice for Muslim girls in their early 20s: Get married!

If you get a good proposal say yes! Don’t reject good boys by giving stupid excuses.
I know getting married is scary and all. Especially because we go the arranged marriage way but trust me the consequences of delaying your marriage will be worse. I know most girls will say that they have to study, work, do something in their career and then get married- that’s what I thought. But when you really think about it, you have a lot of time to study and build a career AFTER marriage (there is no need for you to start popping out babies immediately after you get hitched).
Because there is an age for getting married and after you pass that age it will be difficult to find a good spouse and then you will have to compromise, and that’s the truth.
This realization suddenly hit me very clearly, when I decided to make a profile for my elder brother on a shia matrimonial website. When I was looking at female profiles(for my bro), I was very surprised to see that most of the girls were 19, 20, 21 i.e. under 25. They were smart, educated(pursuing), beautiful and religious! And I thought about myself, I’m 25 years old and single! In a purely arranged marriage situation, if a guy is given a choice between a 21 yr old and a 25 yr old, he will choose the 21 yr old. that’s a fact. Men prefer marrying younger girls and even if they don’t their moms prefer marrying them to younger girls!
And if you look at it from a religious perspective, marriage is half your religion and most of the dwellers of hell will be single. It is very, very difficult to stay away from sin if you are single. It is very easy for Shaitan to mislead you.

So girls, get married.
By no means, am I saying that you should rush into it and marry the first Abdul, Mehmood or Akbar who proposes. No!
You have to go about the process of spouse selection very carefully. I have read an excellent book- extremely practical which I highly recommend. It’s a must read for anyone looking to get married- Youth and Spouse Selection by Ali Akbar Mazaheri

Note: This advice is from someone who is (By the Grace of God) very successful and accomplished in her career. I am a career woman and I’ve done everything which I set out to do and more professionally and after 3 yrs of working- I’m of the opinion that having a career is good but being single isn’t and I think if I had gotten married earlier I would have had a career and a husband!
I also want to say that it’s extremely difficult for me to be so honest about this and talk about it on my blog. But I said it because someone has to say it.

Are you wondering how much a particular person you know likes you?

Well I have heard from a reliable person that there is a saying of Imam Ali(as) that when you want to know how much a person likes you, you must look in your heart and try to gauge how much you like that person, that person likes you as much as you like him/her.

thebeautyofislam:

So I was like you can ask a female assistant to take my measurements. To my surprise the owner said that there aren’t any female asiistants to take my measurements! I was like,” what! I am not going to let the male tailor (the master, as the head tailor is called here in India) do it.”. So then they had no choice but to make my coat without my measurements.
And then when my coat finally got stitched it was a disaster and I had a mini arguement with him. I told him it was his fault that he didn’t keep a female assistant, afterall it’s a hijab shop! The owner was quiet surprised by my strong stance. He was like,”Madam, No one thinks like you do. All my customers are ok with letting a male assistant take their measurements.”
Anyway, the issue was solved with him agreeing to do alterations but he charged me for it(which I thought was unfair!).
Afterwards, he was making my bill, he asked me for my name.
I said Rizvi.
If a woman did not have importance, God would not have placed the lineage of the 12 Imāms in the progeny of Hazrat Zahra (a). Truly if a woman is noble and good she can make the entire world a rose-garden, and if she is bad she can make the world a hell…Women and men are partners, and after looking after the raising of her children, a woman must become aware and familiar with the affairs of her society.
